We have been attending Calvary
Chapel Vista since 1993, and are currently serving in the Men's and W
omen's ministries. Ron is a graduate of Biola College with his BA is Christian
Education. He is a mobile auto mechanic and has had his own business for the past twenty-two years. Jacque, a graduate of Cal State Long Beach, with her BA in Home Economics, has been
a stay-at-home Mom and is currently doing part-time tutoring along with
homemaking and grandparenting with Ron. Our daughter Amy, a graduate of
SDSU is married and teaches music and accompanies the choir at CCS. Sara, a mom of two, has her LVN and will begin homeschooling Kindergarten this year. Andrew is a full time student majoring in Journalism, on scholarships at Biola Univeristy.
We began teaching at home in
the mid-eighties at the very cusp of the homeschooling movement. At that time,
curriculum was hard to come by and we knew only a couple of other families who
were teaching their children at home. We were the only family in our church doing so. We filed our own private school affidavit and called ourselves,
“Narnia Christian Family
School.” Amy and
Sara learned their 3Rs at home and those early years have borne much fruit in
their lives and we believe they had a definite advantage because of them. Our son,
Andrew, came along later, and we homeschooled him through the CCS Independent Study Program all the way through high school. He graduated at the age of 16.
We believe that homeschooling is one of the best things we could
have done for our children and we are so thankful that the Lord not
only called, but also equipped us for it. Now our passion is to offer
help and encouragement to other parents who feel God calling them to do
the same.

It is our hope that this would be an encouragement to you in considering the Calvary Chapel
School –PSP (CCS-PSP).
Sonia and I have been married for 22 years and have been blessed to be a part of
the PSP for the past 12 years. Sonia is a stay-at-home mom who spends lots
of time with our kids. I work for the Oceanside Fire Department and on my off
time I get to coach Calvary Varsity Baseball.
Our first son, Alex was born in 1991 and neither of us even
considered homeschooling at that time. Just before his second birthday, the
Lord blessed us with an 11 year old daughter named Valentine. This was
unexpected and a tremendous learning curve for both of us; raising a two year
old and now responsible for an 11 year old child. We knew the Lord was with us.
When Alex turned 5, we enrolled him in Calvary Christian
School and had a
wonderful experience with the Kindergarten teacher. Our youngest, Sam, was 2
years old and trying to mimic everything his older siblings were doing. At this
time the Lord was stirring both our hearts about homeschooling, and the next
thing we knew, Alex was at home with Sonia and learning more than ever before.
Our hearts for homeschooling are to give our children a firm
foundation in the Lord Jesus Christ, and a solid education. We spent several
hours and days praying about keeping our kids at home, and were discouraged by
some, and encouraged by others. I am so thankful that my wife was faithful to
what the Lord desired in our kids lives. We love family time, and have never
looked back nor considered doing it differently.
Our oldest daughter, Valentine, age 29, recently got married
to a wonderful young man who loves her dearly. Alex, our 19 year old graduated
last year, and is attending Palomar
College. Sam, 16 is a
Junior, and is currently enjoying all that our PSP has to offer.
Through the CCS-PSP, we have had the opportunity to have the
best of both worlds. We can educate our children at home, and still have the
ability to participate in school activities including; drama, choir, Jr. High
sports, High School CIF sports, ASB events, school banquets, formal graduation
ceremony, mission trips and the choice to take High school courses at Calvary Christian School.
We look forward to serving you and your family as a
member of the PSP Advisory Committee.

The CCS-PSP Advisory Committee establishes Policies and Procedures for school board approval,
recommends administrators for hire and committee members for appointment, and directs administrators
in day-to-day operations.
Qualifications for leadership in the PSP: Members of the Advisory Committee must be
experienced homeschoolers and according to 1Timothy, Chapter 3, a leader should
be above reproach, sober-minded, self-controlled, hospitable, worthy of
respect, able to teach, gentle, not quarrelsome, able to manage his/her
own family well, able to keep hold of the deep truths of the faith, and have a
good testimony among those who are outside the faith. (From the NKJV and NIV
versions).
Your 2010-2011 Advisory Committee
Though
a San Diego native, I’ve been blessed with the
opportunity to have lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Central
America, the Middle East and the United States. I lived in Spain during the late 1980’s, and studied
Business Management at the University
of Maryland: European
Division. I proudly served in the USAF for 10 years, and am not only a Gulf War
Veteran, but also a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious
service during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
My
son, Devon and I have attended Calvary Chapel Vista and North Coast
Church since 2006. I had
a heart for homeschooling even before Devon was born, and in the winter of 2006,
the Lord provided a career that allowed me to work full-time and
homeschool Devon. We’ve homeschooled
through CCS-PSP since 2007.
As
a single Mom, who homeschools and works full-time, I’d like to encourage any
family with a call from the Lord to step out in faith and give your children
the benefit of a Christian home education. The Lord has provided for us every
step of the way and He will do the same for your family!
Chris and Shelly Meier
Advisory Committee Members
23 years ago Chris was invited to Calvary Chapel Vista,
and shortly after, accepted the Lord as his Savior. A few months later, Chris met Shelly and
invited her to Calvary Chapel Vista.
After attending for a few weeks, Shelly also received the Lord as her
Savior. Throughout the years, Chris and
Shelly have been involved in various ministries; children’s, jail, usher, sound, and homeschool ministries.
Chris and Shelly have 3 children, 21, 18, and 14, and 3 grandchildren. Their oldest daughter attended Calvary Christian
School in
Kindergarten. God was stirring their
hearts to homeschool and they began with 1st grade. They
now have been homeschooling for the past 16 years, graduating 2 of their children
through CCS-PSP.
After a few years of being in CCS-PSP, Shelly began setting
up field trips for the group and Chris began leading the Presidential Physical
Fitness practice and testing for the kids in the group. In 1999, Chris and Shelly began serving as
the Director’s of CCS-PSP. They have
enjoyed getting to know so many families within the group, participating in
field trips, and other activities with their new found friends. After serving in this ministry for 11 years,
they have felt the Lord calling them to step down as Directors. God has called them to serve on the Advisory
Committee to offer any help they can to the new Administrator and the PSP
members.
Linda Clark
High School Advisor
I am a 5th generation San Diegan, a graduate of Point Loma
High School with many
college credits in mathematics, computer programming, accounting, French and
even woodworking. Prior to marriage, I
worked in San Diego and La
Jolla, in market research and advertising. I have also worked with, and directed ACE
International, a French student exchange program, for the past 14 years
providing Christian host families to visiting French kids.
Fred, my husband of 39 years, graduated from Carlsbad High School,
has a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Biola University,
and a Masters in Religious Studies from Southern California Bible College and
Seminary. He served as Chaplain and
Chaplain Coordinator for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for 10
years. He is now semi-retired and works as a private consultant regarding land
issues to support our ministry activities.
Although he is not technically on the Advisory Committee, most of what
we do is together. We have fellowshipped
at Calvary Chapel Vista for 22 years. He is my prayer partner, encourager and
homeschool supporter and I work beside him at home and around the world with
Gaius Missionary Services. We are also
blessed to participate in the homeschool education of many of our
grandchildren. We have three married
children.
Fred Jr. is a General Contractor, has five children, lives
in San Marcos
with his wife, and fellowships at The Movement.
Anna, whose high school pastor was Rob Salvato, lives in
Fallbrook with her husband, Garrett, "The Inspector".
They homeschool their four children and fellowship at Rainbow Community
Church. Their oldest son will graduate next school
year from CCS-PSP, belongs to Civil Air Patrol at Camp Pendleton
and is pursuing the Air Force Academy.
The next oldest high school son is pursuing music under the instruction
of a Calvary Christian School
graduate and worship leader.
Alexandria lives
in Okinawa with her Marine Corps husband and
four children fellowshipping at Calvary Chapel Okinawa. A graduate of Calvary
Christian School
through the homeschool program, she spent a semester at Christian Heritage
College on a music
scholarship prior to her marriage. She homeschools her children through CCS-PSP.
We homeschooled our youngest daughter for 9 years through
CCS-ISP (now CCS-PSP). In her senior
year the high school program was dropped due to lack of leadership. She was allowed to continue homeschooling
through Calvary Christian School
and graduated with them in 2002. The
following school year the Lord put it on my heart to step up and re-establish
the high school homeschool program, to accommodate the requests of graduating 8th
graders and high schoolers in our fellowship.
So I began praying, and working with Ron and Cindy Barger and Chris and
Shelly Meier, to reconstruct the program, justify homeschool students to
receive a Calvary
Christian School
diploma and to qualify homeschoolers to play CIF sports.
Many changes have taken place, as with God’s guidance and
direction we have been able to establish an excellent, highly accountable
homeschool high school program with integrity and good reputation, which is closely
affiliated and governed by Calvary Christian School (CCS). Recipients of a CCS-PSP diploma can be
assured that they have met the same graduation requirements as CCS, and can
qualify for CIF sports. I think the
biggest blessing of all is the newly formed Advisory Committee, which will be
directing the CCS-PSP under the government of the CCS school board. God has clearly put together a group of godly
men and women who seek His will, and have hearts to serve the homeschool
community.
We look forward to serving your homeschool needs this coming
school year, and I look forward to working with the high school families to help
prepare your young men and women for their future goals, as God directs.
